We have an action plan that details areas that we plan to work on with the school during this school year to support our young people in their education journey, please take a look at the items we have identified. If you feel you can contribute to any areas on our plan, please get in contact.
Uniform Swap Shop: Last year we worked with Mrs Simpson, a Scottish Attainment Challenge Principal Teacher and set up a New / Preloved School Uniform Shop to consider the cost of coming to school. We received a large number of donations (new & preloved) from parent / carers, we also received support from Asda and Tesco and also partnered up with R: evolve Recycle with the shared aim of looking after the environment; encouraging the use of second-hand uniform items. Recently we have also secured another two grants of £500 each from the Asda Foundation and Postcode Lottery Magic Little Grants that will be used to support the school uniform shop..
New Website: Improving communication between the school, parent council and parents and carers is a priority to the Parent Council. The school website is the most important communication tool we and the school have for providing useful and relevant information to the school community. The Parent Council is provided funding and support to develop this new school website and are working with the school as content continues to be updated.
Other Recent Activity:
- We are arranging an event for local community groups to showcase the support available locally to the Stonelaw community.
- We have set up Period Emergency Packs for young people at school.
- We are in discussion with PC Galbraith about a locality event for Cathkin, Stonelaw and Trinity High School on the role and benefits of a campus cop in secondary schools.
- We have made an application to OSCR for Charity Status that will allow the PC and School access to a greater number of funding areas.
- We will take part in the Young Driver Course delivered by PC Galbraith to 6th year students.
- We have been involved in classroom observations with senior management team to allow a better understanding of the learning and teaching procedures.
- We have attended ‘Parent as Partner’ Locality Meetings.
- We will be part of the group who will allocate Pupil Equity Funds (PEF) to departments at school.
In addition to our Communication Projects the Parent Council have also been sourcing grant funding to support school endeavours such as new strips for the school rugby team and considering fundraising options available to us during lockdown - please scroll down to see how you can support us through EasyFundRaising and the 50/50 club. We have also been preparing information for parents of primary seven pupils who will be joining the school in August.

Updates on the activity of the Parent Council can be found on our Twitter and Facebook pages. You can find our the latest newsletter from the Parent Council below.
School App: The new school app was launched last year and uptake has been very positive. The Parent Council funded the app to improve communication between the school and parents and carers, as well as the parent council and the parent forum (which is all the parents and carers of Stonelaw pupils). We hope this will prove to be a success and a vital asset to you, especially while our youngsters are learning remotely. You can download and find out more about the School app by using the buttons below:
Thank You for your continued support.
Due to the current pandemic situation and to follow the guidance from Scottish Government and South Lanarkshire Council we changed how we operated. We now meet remotely via the Zoom platform and our chairperson has regular telephone calls with Ms McLachlan.
Parent Council Survey
During the Summer of 2019 we issued a survey to the Parent Forum to help inform and direct the activities of the Parent Council. You can find the results of the survey below.
Our 50/50 club is a way to help support the Parent Council and raise funds for the school with a chance to win some extra cash for yourself. This is an especially important fund raising device for the Parent Council while the impacts of Covid-19 continue to limit possible fund raising activities.
Draws are held every month with a first and second place winner. Occasional super draws can net larger payouts for bonus winners. Entries cost £1, with 50p going to the prize fund and 50p going to support the School. For more info and to join see below.
Supporting our young people
We continue to raise cash for the school via several avenues: raffles, grant applications, and donations from local companies.
Activities: We held a successful comedy night, a Christmas Market and Raffles throughout the year. We also took part in the Cash for Kids School Challenge and managed to secure £3909.03.
Online Fund Raising: You can support the Parent Council while you shop at no extra cost to you. Sign up to EasyFundRaising and support our cause to generate donations as you shop online. This could be hugely beneficial for the school community given how important online orders are just now. Retailers will make a donation to our cause if you use an easy-fund-raising link to visit their site. You can even include a button on your browser to make it even easier. Check out our EasyFundRaising page and give it a try.
Donations: During this year we received numerous donations from parents and school staff to allow raffles to take place. Donations can also be made directly to help the Parent Council support our young people at the school. We would like to thank all those that have contributed to the support we are able to offer. If you would like to make a donation please contact us by email to email@example.com.
The funds we raise go to support our young people at the school. Recently we have made significant contributions to help pay for; Show My Homework, basketball and rugby kits, photography equipment, house badges, technical equipment (e.g. press machine), and support for MCR pathways as well as providing emergency funding to help support the school response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
